Den svenska konstnären Kristoffer Zetterstrand har fått uppdraget att ge Segeltorpsskolan i Stockholm lite finkultur genom några konstinstallationer.
Kristoffer, som ofta gör pixelkonst-liknande grejer med spelreferenser, kommer att måla upp pixelväggar på skolorna samt göra en mosaik-installation med pixelgraffiti. Arbetet förväntas bli klart någon gång under våren.

My high school had murals in the cafeteria, all painted by senior art students. And although my senior year, members of my class did get to repaint one (they went with a Calvin & Hobbes panel), the next newest one was a portrait of John Lennon painted the year before most of my graduating class was born.
This high school, on the other hand, is much more sleek, modern, and airy in design than the early-1970s two-story brick fortress I attended. And the art installation it’s getting is much cooler. Swedish artist Kristoffer Zetterstrand, who often references video games and pixel-based worlds in his work, has been commissioned to give this Stockholm school a bit of a trompe l’oeil makeover.
My personal favorite is the barely-there graffiti of the first image, which reminds me of Dare to Dream, a shareware game of the very early 1990s that I remember fondly to this day.

Kristoffer Zetterstrand is taking 8-bit aesthetics to the street. His new projects, including “Ager Medicinae” (above), transform the side of a building – the parking house walls of the New Karolinska Solna University Hospital, Stockholm – into a videogame via tile mosaics. The New Karolinska Solna is the largest project ever by the Stockholm County Council as well as being one of the largest and most innovative healthcare projects worldwide – it will be completed in 2016. Commissioned by Stockholms Läns Landsting/Stockholm County Council, Zetterstrand’s “Ager Medicinae” will make its debut in the Spring of 2012. Simply stunning.

A second project by Kristoffer Zetterstrand, “Bricks in the Wall” (2012) will transform the Swedish Segeltorpsskolan school in a giant videogame space. Using glass mosaics, Zetterstrand is introducing playfulness and dynamism in an otherwise conventional indoor space. The project was commissioned by Commissioned by Huge Fastigheter AB 2011. “Bricks in the Wall” will be ready in the Spring of 2012.
